STandalone / Hunting cameras

Standalone cameras  also known as trail or hunting cameras have been around for many years.  They were originally used by hunters to locate the movements of deer, hence the name hunting or trail camera. Over the years the technology in these cameras has improved incredibly to a stage where they now offer high quality video and audio as well as 5MP photographs or better. Due to there low cost and versatility, they are now used in many different types of industries such as animal study, farming, councils, security, education and many more.
This type of camera comes in many shapes and sizes and of course many different brands. Prices can range anywhere from $100 for a basic model all the way up to $1000 + dependant on your needs and budget. Obviously the cheaper models don’t offer 4G functionality (don’t transmit to mobile phone), but still do offer a lot of the more basic functions for capturing a decent photo or video.
These cameras have become very popular for use in domestic and farming security in the last few years and that popularity continues to grow as these cameras become more sophisticated.

Some of the more common questions we get asked are as follows –

Q- Are these cameras simple to use ?
A- Yes, once you have had a bit of a play with them to understand all the functions you will find them very simple to use.

Q- How do I mount the cameras ?
A- The cameras can be easily mounted depending on the surface you are trying to mount onto. The cameras do come with a simple mounting strap that will allow you to mount to a tree or pole very easily. There are also many accessories that can be used to make mounting easier to different surfaces.

Q- How do I secure my camera to prevent it from being damaged or stolen.
A- To prevent your camera from being discovered it is always a good idea to disguise/hide it as much as possible. There are steel security boxes available as an accessory, that will protect your camera. Security cables and locks are also available.

Q- Are the SIM cards expensive to use.
A- No, not really depending on the card you use and the plan you are on. I would suggest starting with a basic $15.00 per month data plan and then see how that goes. If you get the images sent to your email as opposed to your mobile phone it will be a lot cheaper and last longer.

Q- What is the picture quality like on these cameras.
A- You won’t be disappointed with the picture quality on these cameras. I can’t speak for every camera out there but most of the modern cameras are at least 5MP images, comparable to an average mobile phone camera.
